| Important: Use this add-on with Blender 2.62 official release only. It will not work on Blender builds against current SVN because of the B-mesh commit. |
The YafaRay add-on for Blender 2.62 is maintained by Gabriele Ferreri at http://www.graphicall.org/megasoft78. Builds are updated quite often, so please check Gabriele's page regularly.
YafaRay comes into two flavours, 0.1.2 Beta 4 and 0.1.3 Experimental.
0.1.2 Beta 4 means that the core features work and the engine is quite stable. You will not run into random crashes for instance. However, there are still some well identified bugs pending to be fixed and some of them can lead to a Blender crash. They are related to very specific features such as blending of blend materials, some cases of particles rendering and lens shift. There are also memory issues related to textures management, but you are not likely to run into problems unless you are rendering an animation with medium to heavy texturing. This issue happens in YafaRay 0.1.1 - Blender 2.49 too. If you are going to work with YafaRay core features on still renders, this is the recommended version to use. If you run into problems, please revert to the YafaRay 0.1.1 - Blender 2.49 release.
The 0.1.3 Experimental version includes 3 projects developed by students during the GSoC 2010 program, which are Irradiance Cache, GPU accelerated Final Gather rendering and a photons-based SSS shader. These projects are at a very early stage of optimisation and refinement. Use Experimental only for testing purposes.
YafaRay is released on 6 platforms, which are:

It is recommended that you read the existing documentation about YafaRay. Reading the available documentation is the better and faster 'algorithm' you can ever use for your renders. A first superficial reading will give you a lot of clues about how YafaRay works. The main learning resources and support tools in the YafaRay site are:
Platform maintaners and builds are required for these and for other yet not available operating systems. Please use this section of the forum to share your own builds or to ask about binary building.
