well, the fact that a number of samples can be defined only for the first pass, and then a different number for subsequent passes cuold mean that by using a high number of samples for the first pass maybe you can save subsequent passes & samples, but we need a yaf(a)ray developer to confirm this and explain a bit more why.

I have actualised the guide with examples about:

• absorption effect and refractive caustics
• glossy reflection
• color filtering and shadows calculation from alpha mapping in translucency and transparency
• reflective caustics in shinydiffuse
• pathtracing caustic methods comparison
• Clamp RGB comparison

Apart from some fixing and rephrasing. Please update (first post)

Thanks so much, Samo! I'll be reading them by and by. thanks. I've been a YafRay user for a long time already, but when the development went down, so did I with the external rendering. But now that Yaf(a)Ray's here, and with great guides along, I'll be sure to step back again whenever I needed the help of an external renderer with Blender. Thanks so much.

I have finished the mapping section, now everything is documented, what it supported and what is not. Coordinates for textures, projection modes, image texturing settings, texture channels workflow, stencil feature, blending modes, procedural textures.

next in the todo list is the material section

Note: there is a bug in the exporter code so blending modes don't work, but the patch is easy. Commented here:

Also the exporter code for the voronoi material needs to be patched
