Archviz family house for client

Post Sat Aug 16, 2014 11:18 am

Hey! This is the first image of my present project for the architect of the house you see in the image. I need some advice though. I've posted the settings, how can I improve my rendertimes a bit? Cause it took 8hours17minutes on an i5 which is veeery long. Maybe it's because of the high poly count (which wasn't that high I guess)? (2215297 tris, 1410701 faces and 499 Mb memory)
C&C are welcome artistic-wise also!!

Regards, Zsolt

Nice render. Your render time is pretty normal ;) I always wanted to render an outdoor scene in YafaRay :D

Depth 20 It's high, I think.

I always use Mitchell filter, by the way. Gauss produces blurry images.
Can you tell me your light setup?

By the way this second image took only 2 and a half hour for some reason with the same settings.. :?: Whatever, yes, you shall be right with mitchell filter, I'll try it. Lighting is pretty simple: a sun lamp and IBL. It's the image you see as sky, it's not composited, it's the sky itself.

The difference I can see that might account for the longer render time is the ivy. I'm assuming the leaves are planes with transparency, and several layers of transparency will increase render times. The extra geometry will add to it as well.
