YafaRay 0.1.2 Beta 4 has been released. We have fixed the arealight bug that produced wrong reflections and rendering of the light itself. Apart from that, normal mapping has been fixed and there is a first implementation of border rendering. However, border rendering is not finished yet, so just be sure you don't cancel rendering when border rendering is enabled or either Blender will crash. Please report your bugs and findings in this thread.
Since the arealight bug is a critical one, we recommend immediate upgrading.
Regards.
PD: to upgrade, you just need to be sure that the 'overwrite' tickbox is enabled in the files browser when you select the zip file of the new version
A note on installing: dumping the yafaray folder into the addons folder works equally good (rename the previous yafaray folder if you want to keep the previous version, for safety)

I see there are some Betas around there. Is there a changelog file or something to see what is new and how it works? Would be nice if someone could tell me something.
It was suggested that i post this issue here. I've been unsuccessful at getting a clean transparency from image files with an alpha channel or by using a BW image to affect the transparency channel. Here's the post for more info: http://www.yafaray.org/community/forum/ ... =22&t=4640
I've tried this in many different ways on several different computers and os's but no success. Is this a bug?
edit - I've submitted this into the bug tracker for review, there are more details there as well as a .blend file.
As far as i see, in the most renderings with Photon Mapping, the caustic photons are set to a minimum. Is this a reslut of a bug in the new versions or why did everybody use it in that way or miss i something in the last months and years?
I try to use Yafaray in combination with cameratracking, but i run into some problems with a shadow only material that is needed to fake shadows on the floor.
Any idea, without render it 2 or 3 times and composit it together?
Create a copy of the scene for Blender. In the compositor add an input node, but from the Blender scene. Extract the shadow from this and composite it into your yafaray render node tree.
AFAIK turning off caustics in many scenes is not due to a new bug. With some scenes (like an interior render with glass windows etc.) rendering with caustics can be very hard to manage, so it is easier then to just render without them.
