Yafaray Contest 2011, Malo entry

Post Thu Jul 07, 2011 6:47 pm

Hi

I want to try a beetle like that.
Image

Its a longhorn beetle (Cerambycidae).
I am not sure about the color, there are some different out there, but the shape is nearly the same of all beetles.

Next Step is sculpting.

Little question:
How to use Displacement Maps in Blender 2.58 and Yafaray 1.2 ?
I cant find or see any buttons for that.

Yafaray does not do any calculated displacement. You create displacement by applying enough subsurf (modifier) levels to your mesh and use the Blender displace modifier, ie. you displace the mesh inside Blender.

He's really nice looking, I like the colors you chose. Keep up the good work.
I'm sorry if my english is sometimes a bit weird.

I don't know what you mean with 1 to 1 copy, but you meet all the requirements to remain in the competition. IMO, the bug need no to be 100% exact as in nature, if that's what you are asking.

Thanks for the feedback.

I mean the color of the bug. It is not exactly the same, that you find in the nature.
Its a mix that exists and something that i create in my fantasy.

The color of the bug is not important, at least I don't see why it would be. This is an artistic competition, afterall :)

Thanks, i will do my best.

But SSS is difficult. I do some stuff with blendmaterials (glass and glossy or transculent and glossy) but it wont works good.
How could i fake SSS ?
