small kitchen

Post Thu Feb 18, 2016 3:12 pm

Hello all,
I'm actually working on a small kitchen. It already exist, 3d is needed for a renovation. I'm using the last Yafaray release.

Here is where I have arrived. I'm not too happy with the render and I'm facing an issue that I have never seen before. Large white spots a bit everywhere.

Any idea what could be causing this.

Thanks in advance for your guys help.

PS. Needs to show Images on saturday if I could resolve this issue before, it would be awesome.

Here is the same picture with a background. I'm also facing an issue with the sun. The power of the sun is actually 0.25. Higher the outside wall is overexposed even at 0.50. The door has some details which I would like the client to see but only at power 1 can it be seen clearly.

Here are my settings

Hello,

No idea about the exposure, I would need to see the scene myself.

About the white spots, they look like photons. Are you using Portals in the windows to control better the photons from the background illumination?

Thanks for reply David. Yes I am using portals but not everywhere. I'll put them where I have not and see if its changes. Still a lot to do for tomorrow.

We need more information on what lighting method and light sources you are using. Sun lamps and backgrounds are poor photon shooters. Enable "show radiance map" in the photon mapping section to see the quality of the photon map.

Perhaps this is caused by "loose" caustic photons... Perhaps you could try to disable caustic photons:

* Disable caustic photons in the World IBL settings and the Portal lights
* Enable Transparent Shadows in the render General Settings
* Enable Fake Shadows in the glass material(s)

I'm not sure if it will help, but it's worth a try...

If the above steps do not work, perhaps it could be worth trying other integrators like Path tracing or SPPM?

Can you upload the scene?

Also be sure you are using "fake" glass so they don't produce caustic photons.

Hello all thank you all for your advice and thanks for the interest with this project. I did not sign in being busy and I nearly finished the project still having the same problem.

I'll take your different advice to the letter and apply them all. By this Friday I must give the final images with a bit more details. Here is where I've arrived.

This took 1hr30mins. Still needs of work.

This one a close up to the sink. I'm not happy with the brown sink doors material

This one my less favorite. Hard to get a good light and same problem as you can see with the round spots.

Hi,
for a better help I think that you have to share with us your blend file, without furnitures. We'll take a look on this ;)

Hello,

Try "disabling" caustic photons setting the number of caustic photons to a very low value like 1. Please let us know if it helps.

I think David is right, you should review these parameters.

Hello all,
Thanks so much for your help guys. You pinpoint the right problem. So I've unchecked the caustic photons in the portals and the world settings. It solved the problem no more white sphere spots. I think it also reduced the render time :).

Thanks David for your advice.

Thanks Samo for the docs.

Rio love what you do, please continue. Oh I love how your exterior renders looks. Do you used Yafaray for those?

Thanks all again, I'll post the final renders as soon as they are done.

Hello all,
Here are the latest images of this project. Client is seeing them tomorrow, normally. I had no time to add the details I wanted, family issue but the client is not difficult :). I added the sun for it to be more lively but you'll surely see because of it some round dots appeared again.

I wanted to make some clay render to try to mix it as I saw in a tutorial but not sure I'll have the time.

Comments are welcome.
