New Era: GE Jet Ad Clip

Post Fri Dec 30, 2011 11:49 am

My first plan didn't work for me, so I am going to try a video.
It will be an advertisement for a Jet engine (New technological era).

I am almost done modelling. The mesh is not lowpoly, but because (modern) aircraft have only very small details, I will make some detailled bumpmaps. Therefor, materials and textures will be the topic of my "documentation".

The mesh and the scene setup. Barely textured yet, just some tex testing on the nacelles.

I also started preparing the PP nodes:

This might give you an impression of the postproduction. Im not totally happy about it, but its a nice beginning.

Yo boyz, I almost completely textured the hull (COL), and I modified the nacelles, so that they look a bit more like the GEnx. I also added windshield wipers.

The texture for the tail. Unluckily, the registration has some inclination.

I changed the colours.

I will make some additional paint schemes for the animation.

Your model needs one level of subsurf more, as the lowpoly mesh is quite visible on curved areas. Also there seem to be some topology problems in the nose area (visible in your earlier shots).

Your last shot is very noisy. Probably because of all that arealights & coated glossy plane surface.

Overall the plane model looks nice - except the engine casing / frame (or whatever is the technically right term) looks a bit too thin to me. Do you have any photo reference?

@_Mo_:

The grains are there because it is 6 samples :D final gathering, I wanted to save time. The material is a "glossy", just a bit blurred, but I made it cleaner/finer.

I tried to correct the nose, hope it is better now.

I wondered whether I should add those auxiliary intake doors, decided not to add them (though they are pretty cool).

The engine shown in my last render (in the sepia cutout) is meant to be old, so I thought about this one (from a 707), the fuel pump and stuff are in the pylon (it has a cooling intake just for all those machines), not in the nacelle, therefor it's so thin. My last render shows another engine than the first ones do, the nacelles shown there (inspired by the GEnx) are thicker.
