thank guys for your comments...

mookie wrote:Pretty cool! Tell me how did you make DOF and ground?

1. the ground is just a plane roughly modelled to get a basic shape, subdivided several times to apply a displacement modifier for middle/hard details and then a Diffuse Color map+Normal map for small details

2. DOF is in postpro (GIMP) with depth map (Z-buffer) from yafaray.

well... we should thanks to devs for include SPPM and Particle System support in yafaray 0.1.2 ;)

How did you get the depth pass from Yafaray? Did you set it up in 2.49?

in Blender 2.59, you can get Zbuffer from yafaray only with render to Image File. There is no way yet to get Zbuffer rendering to Blender directly.... So you just need to change render outoput from "Into Blender" to "Image File" and check the checkbox (dah :P) "Render Depth Map". After that, yafaray will write a separate image with the Zdepth map in the same folder as the main render. If you choose EXR, the Alpha channel and the Zbuffer will be included as separate passes in the same file so you can load the Multilayer EXR in Blender Nodes if you want....

Linux 64 bits, intel Corei7, 8 Gb RAM, Asus nvidia GTX 570 cu II.

with 260.000 instanced particle-hairs the whole scene took just 15-20 min with SPPM at res:1920x1080

I keep clicking on it every few weeks to see if it is implemented yet.
Honestly, we need to hire someone to tell us such things

Man, I'm doing test renders that are 15 min long... It's time to write Santa an early letter :D

I was under the impression that Z pass is still not supported / included in 012?

well... I made more than 20 full render test the last 2 weeks ... I hope next release of yafaray will include SPPM and IrrCache too

Z pass has been supported for long time in 0.1.2

Yes, I used it regularly in the exporter (actually Yafa GUI) for Blender 2.49, but for 2.5 I thought it's not available yet - this I gathered from the talking on the forum... So it turns out that it is available, just not for importing into Blender.
