Now that's a beautiful insect! You'll have a lot of work with materials and light setup! Good luck, condar!

The eyes are really heavy, I assume it's for displace modifier?

well... I did apply an extra level of subdivision surface just for testing the curvature... I'll work with a lower level of geometry on the eyes for sculpting and rendering :)

some minor details for the base model plus testing sculpting and baking a couple of normal maps.... I'm starting to hate insects .....

still a lot of work to do :) ... some texture painting and test with yafaray.... I'll change the material settings later, for now I just want to finish the textures but painting is a slow process :)

Why not using some photos for textures? I guess painting on your own is quite hard for such a project...

100% agreed :).... I'm just using the contest as an excuse to try different techniques and work flows just for the pleasure of doing something different... I will mix some photos with painted textures at the end for sure ;)

Same here. I decided to paint my textures in GIMP entirely from scratch for this project. It's also not easy to find usable photos for specific insect texturing.

Good work, Condar

Nice start condar. I'm not too sure but something seems off with the legs. I think they look a little too wavy. Or maybe the joints are not straight enough :?:
