mookie's dung beetle

Post Thu Jul 07, 2011 6:09 pm

Hi there; I'll try to make a little dung beetle raising a ball of excrement with a small crane. It will control it by sitting at the top of joystick I have already started to model.

Good luck to everybody! Have fun, guys!

Thanks kellyq, I hope you'll paticipate in the contest too.

Here's a small up - the shot will vertical, ball will be hanging in the right upper corner, dung will have a little engineer helmet at its head. I still think of how the crane should be constructed so if you have some ideas - go ahead.

Another small up; as you can see I replaced crane with a fishing rod.

Not really, I made some edges, then I attached them to the surface of the crank with shrinkwrap modifier, then I changed it to curves and beveled it with circle curve.

Small up - this time crane grabber.

You seriously kick ass in modeling

Say, how much time did you need for the whole grabber, for example?

Hard to say, about 3-4 hours?

Here's a wire view of the scene so far. I have so much fun doing this project!

A small step forward - first stage of modelling beetle, I don't know if he's goin' to have a kind of a helmet or a driver hat, we'll see about it.

OK, so I finished sculpting my beetle (I used onion branch - pretty cool although a bit buggy). Time for a ball and environment.
