Hi there!
We have implemented a protocol to hadle in a sensible way the increasing number of students interested in working with the YafaRay project. Follow this protocol so we can know about you and help you to work on your application,
before the official application time begins:
- Please have a good understanding of the requirements of the ideas proposed, when composing your presentation thread. You can talk with us in the IRC room about it.
This is particularly true with raytracing ideas. Anyone with previous experience on raytracing algorithms will be favoured over students without any experience, when two people (or more) are applying to the same raytracing idea (motion blur, irradiance cache, ERpth, SSS, etc). Those ideas are labeled as 'Hard' in our Ideas page for a reason. Believe us, they are hard to acomplish if you have never heard about raytracing before - Read our FAQ here: http://tinyurl.com/yggqoox
- If you have not done it yet, register in the YafaRay site and choose a nick: http://tinyurl.com/y8zqw4z
- Please use the same nick in the YafaRay IRC room as well, so we can identify you.
- Send us a private message through the forum board or tell us in the IRC room so we grant you with the GSoC student site role. This role will let you a) post in the GSOC 2010 - Google summer of code forum and b) create & edit a document about your GSoC proposal, hosted in our site.
- Create a presentation thread in the GSOC 2010 - Google summer of code forum. In that presentation thread tell us a bit about yourself, tell us about your proposal, what are you studying about and whether you have participated in any software project before. If you have done any previous work about raytracing or 3D please post some pics and links, if possible.
The tittle of this presentation thread should be your name and the idea you want to apply with. In this thread you can post questions about how to improve your application, and about how the YafaRay engine works. You can use both your presentation thread and the YafaRay IRC room to interact with your possible mentor and the YafaRay team.
State your relevant experience related to the idea suggested. This will be one of the main factors in the student selection process, particularly in the raytracing topics.
- You can create a document in the YafaRay site about your proposal. You can edit, complete and improve such document as you get acquainted with the YafaRay project and get feedback from your possible mentor and the YafaRay Team. This document will help you improve your proposal and help us in the student selection process.
Link to create your document: http://www.yafaray.org/node/add/gsoc-student-proposal
You can access this item as well in your user's menu on the left > Create Content > GSoC student proposal
On a menu on the left called GSoC 2010 - Students' proposals, all documents created by students are listed and can be read and commented by the whole community. You can edit your own document anytime you want.
The final version of your document should describe your proposal and outline your plans in a clear way. Include diagrams and visual information if possible. You can use this document later to complete you official student application through the GsoC site.
- Please keep on interacting with us in the YafaRay IRC room through the whole process. The best hours to find us are between 18:00 - 24:00 GTM weekdays, although you can try other hours
.
Take into account that if you apply with an idea already suggested by other studens, your proposal has less possibities to succeed.
Thank you for working with us. Best regards.
