radial anisotropic

Post Thu Jan 28, 2010 11:47 pm

Hi,
Someone would be so kind to help me in this matter.
I mean to perform the radial anisotropic effect, ie the anisotropy in a circular disk.
Searching the internet I found a tutorial, but other programs, I want to make to Yafaray.

http://www.evermotion.org/tutorials/sho ... final-sp-1

The result in the tuto is perfect, but I firmly believe that I can achieve the same in Yafaray. :)
Someone can tell you how we do it? , Anyone ever tried this effect in a circular area?.
Since already many thanks.
Greetings

you can get there or atleast very close.

Just use a texture for scratches mapped in Blender to Nor(bump)
And make it map radialy on the bottom surface of the fan.
You dont even need to touch the anisotropic sliders in Yafaray they give you horizontal vertical brush bumps.

Out of the box you cant with yafaray. Still caustics in yafaray are ofc interesting. So here are several way around it:

1. Make a cone or inverted cone (depending on the anisotropic effect) at the exact position where the final object is, with the tip of the cone pointing to cam.
2. make the base material
3. insert light - indirect ligthning is in most cases needed here to illuminated the cone from all sides and to have close to no or only very soft shadows
4. render the cone right from above (90°) high resolution
5. use the texture on the final item
6. tune material and render

There are different options depending on your scene but above way offers an idea of the base concept.

Anisotropic reflection direction depends on object UV coordinates,
If you unwrap your object using a radial pattern, then you are likely to get radial anisotropic

A suitable (radial) bumpmap will reinforce the anisotropic effect.

Thank you Telemmaite for your reply, even though I am not convinced the outcome  .
Heretic, thanks to you too, see you try, you've done the test too, you need not there a .blend so I can understand better?.
On the other hand, I see the link to the tutorial to do it in max / vray, takes some work, compared to the solution of Heretic, I will get the same result? I mean the quality that has the image of tuto  .
Thanks Samo

Example of radial anisotropic. Notice that to make it work nicely in the planar circular surface I have had to add lot of resolution, since normal interpolation does not work in planar surfaces, unlike the cone on the left.

you can download the HDRI file from here:

Hi i also made an example file for you, Samo was faster to put an example but i hope you like this one:

radial_example.png
this is photonmaping with pisa hdr

and the blend file with the textures included:

http://static.yafaray.org/temp/anisotropic_radial.blend

just one warning i used svn 471 to do this render so the render settings may differ if you open it with yafray 0.1.1

I'm wondering how to simulate this effect now, with 0.1.2beta3... I used one of Megasoft's build from November 2011 before and could make radial anisotropy. Now with 0.1.2 beta3 I couldn't reproduce it. In both cases a hand-drawn 4000x4000 px bump map was used. Any suggestions?
