glossy - darker diffuse

Post Fri Feb 29, 2008 9:34 am

glossy material seems to darken the diffuse automatically, proportionally to the

specular value.its a problem because, light strength has to be increased and other materials get washed out.any solutions?

Is there a chance that other type of materials, such as coated-glossy would work with alpha textures? And has anybody tried to create a human-skin material with Yaf(a)ray?

Yafaray glossy material is probably the most versatile one. It can be helpful to make leather, plastics, brushed metal, etc.

You have to use very low Glossy reflection and Exponent values to get plastic looking mats.

Amazing Samo!

Are those samples rendered in 201?

Thanks for sharing the info ;)

About glossy material, does Diffuse reflection and Glossy reflection should be reverse-related? (not sure if I use proper English there.)

ie. If G.R. = 0.2, should D.R. = 0.8 and such?

Just want to know the right way to do it.

Thank you in advance :D
Cheers.

Up to you. Diffuse color should be another factor in that equation. The best rule is if it looks good, it is good.

Someone can explain me how it works the raymir map in the shinydiffusemap?
I think that is something like a reflection map that controls the amount of reflection by a map but in 196 yafaray version i can't obtain nothing.
Probably i make some mistake in the blender settings.

Can you post a material preview with a checker map on raymir channel?
Thank you to all!

With some test i understand that Raymir and spec map works only with grayscale map or with "No RGB" button on.
Here a simple test with a free small texture from Arroway website http://www.arroway.de/textures/05/en/index.html,
(each material have a diffuse, a bump, and a specular map)
so i'll make a material library for the Yaf(a)ray render (like maxwell or vray).

Palawat, this is an example of what I commented you in my last post, and it is applicable to most render engines, value info in Diffuse color can be interpreted as Diffuse Reflection too, at least in my opinion. This is a comparison between materias with totally different diffuse values, but with the same look:

Diffuse Color = value 0.40, diffuse Reflection = 1
Image

Diffuse Color = value 1.00, diffuse Reflection = 0.20

You can try this with Blender internal and Yafray 0.0.9 BRDF shaders with a similar result

Sorry for my late response. To map mirror reflection in Yaf(A)ray:

In Map to Blender panels, use CMIR instead of RayMIR (this should be changed in UI help text)
Control mirror amount using Col slider instead of Val slider.

Thank you Samo,
i'll try it.
the checker map that you use is black and white?
if yes, one of this don't have to looks without reflections?
