YafaRay materials

Post here questions about using YafaRay materials, texturing and procedural models.

YafaRay materials

Post Tue Jan 22, 2008 5:57 pm

I think it`s time to start talking about new materials, especially specific like GLOSSY or COATED_GLOSSY.
For example I try to set anisotropic Met_Aluminium, but ... U I`m not understand all settings... The same problem with frosted glass... May be coders help us little?
And what is the black dots?
P.S. I`m using MacIntel and Leopard...

For plastics and metalic brushed surfaces I'm getting good results using "glossy" with relatively low exponent values, just in the range of 25-125, and glossy between 0.05 and 0.6. I'll try to post results the coming days.

This is a scene to test materials with Yafaray.

Glass scene - "not found"...
Why U are using Black 50% - its bad for transparent materials.
I'm using White 100%.
And YafRay logo have Red & Black col - not White & Red.

So what about black dots in my Aluminium? And why "f" key not working for UV texturing?

Thanks Yaroslav, I've fixed the link.

I think that grey is better for colors.
About the dots issue, I'm afraid I can not answer you this question.
About the "F" key, I don't know what you mean. Can you explain it better?

This is the look up table I'm preparing with glossy material, probably the most versatile one of yaf(a)ray:

Yaroslav,
in Yaf(a)ray OSXintel-build the UV-mode is moved to edit-mode.

Yaroslav: Just use bump dense enough and you'll get frost.

I know about it but like I remember parametric maps (Noise) not working...
Or U mean UV picture mapping?
It will be useful to add transparency slider to Glossy material...
What coders say about it?

What you see as frost is parametric cloud texture mapped to Normal in Blender's UI. Some of parametric textures do work with Yafaray.

Enrico did this scene some time ago with Yaf(a)ray. I think that he used some kind of bump map. BTW, Blender procedural cloud texture works in Yaf(a)ray, with a small scale you can use it for a dense bump map.

@ Samo: would you please mind that there also people younger than 18 viewing the forum and its RSS feed, so that they're forced to see material like this??

Anyway, I've read something about SSS (Sub Surface Scattering) which would make candle lights better.. I've tried SSS on a candle, but it makes it completely black.. Could anyone please help me?
