What is going to happen with the different topics? We probably will just have one right?

If you want one topic for me is fine, but I would like to propose several topics so more people can participate in case he/she does not like a particular one. However, I can see the problem of qualifying works that use different topics. What do you think of the idea anyway?

I think that several topics is better than just one, for that exact reasons (and especially because animation is demanding, so give people more freedom).

Evaluation of such work should go through the standard "filters"; technical quality, artistic quality, idea / implementation, etc.

Strict adherence to a topic is less important in this project.

Nowadays animation is based on passes that help to fake most of the effects. As far as I'm concerned Yaf(a)ray provides just Z-buffer and alpha channel, the rest requires Internal. I'm not sure that Yaf(a)ray at this stage of development is a good and fast enough rendering engine for high resolution animation.

PS On the contrary combining real footage with 3d model would be interesting.

Any filter and effect supported in the Blender compositor would be allowed, for instance DOF, motion blur, color correction. The idea is that others can learn from the Blender compositor workflow the best YafaRay artists use in their renders.

About using several topics, I think it also has to do with the fact that the DVD will be like a YafaRay showcase.

It is very likely that there will be a special prize for the animation category.

I have been looking for references about the 'attack run' topic and I haven't found that many. So my proposal would be using 'Moebius worlds' instead.

About Moebius:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean_Giraud
https://www.google.com/search?q=moebius ... 20&bih=921

I am still waiting on some confirmations to get the contest started.

What is "attack run" supposed to be anyway? :) The only thing that comes to mind is a ground attack plane strafing...

Also, will the authors of the material that will go on DVD, retain the right to have credit of creation of said material? Giving credit to the original author when you use his material is a nice & proper thing to do.

Yes, authors will keep the copyright of their creations, the idea is that we release them under a creative commons license. Copyright and license are different matters. Maybe before starting the contest it would be a good idea to decide which creative commons license we want for our works.

Thanks for the explanation. Well, I think the license should be non-commercial, so CC BY-NC-SA would be my pick.

Why not let Blender artists forum users vote?
Blender users are Yafaray users.
Yafaray users are also Blender users.
Lots of votes equals more marketing, more users and absolute justice for the winners.
Don't you think?

I understand if Blender artists refuse to cooperate, but we should always try to join efforts and let them decide if they cooperate or not. I strongly believe they will apreciate it!

Not necessarily. Blender users can use also internal renderer, Lux, Vray, Octane, Aqsis, Thea, Cycles... I would speculate that most Blender users are casual users and they use the internal renderer.

Whoever is interested in Yafaray is already registered here, so he can vote.
