Yaf dudes at Googleplex & San Francisco

Post Thu Oct 14, 2010 11:02 am

Three people from the YafaRay Development Team will attend the Google 2010 Mentor Summit to take place on Saturday and Sunday, 23 - 24 October at Googleplex, Mountain View, California. It will be Bert Buchholz, Kim Skoglund and Alvaro Luna. Besides, two of us will expend some extra days vising the area. This is the first time that YafaRay developers get together and a great oportunity to strengthen our community ties and plan for the future. We will post images and comments about this trip on this thread. Stay tunned!

The clichée at the beginning (taken after the conference):

Our flight going pretty far north:

The Caltrain from the airport to Sunnyvale, where the hotel was located:

The really good (and typically american) food at Google HQ, just awesome:

A tour over the Google campus:

This was funny, if I remember correctly a live display of words entered into Google:

I have a more images from the conference itself, but most of them show the participants and we were asked not to publish images showing recognizably other participants. It was not allowed to take images on the inside, I did though, but again, all show faces. And I am way too lazy to filter them out. ;-)

From left to right: Bert, Kim, Alvaro (not a very good image, it's my fault, I didn't instruct the guy who helped us out too well)

Hi guys

The experience has been great. The only thing that was not so great was how we were treated at USA Customs, but they do the same to everybody, inquiring and all that crap.

The Google complex was impressive. We weren't allowed to take inside pics, and we weren't allowed to enter working areas, only a big area of meeting rooms and halls, but you could see inside the working boots as they use glass as walls. There were catering rooms everywere for Google workers and several restaurants, and we could make use of them anytime, within the area reserved to us.

The ambient was great. The impression Google Admins gave us is that they will be more GSoC editions, and they will make it bigger by accepting more students and organisations in.

San Francisco and the bay area was beautiful, and the people I met there was nice too. It is a great place to visit, if you ever have the oportunity.
