Making Diamonds Sparkle

Post Wed Jul 22, 2009 8:42 am

So, being the DTP/Design/Marketing guy at my company, I have been enlisted to do some jewelry design for an auction that our company is running.

How do I make the below diamonds look less like glass and more like diamonds. Basically, sparkle with many different colors and more refraction etc. and have coloured caustics. I have played around with all of those settings in the Yafaray rendering palette, but to no avail.

I am willing to email the Blender files to anyone who wants to play with them himself. I am by no means a 3D artist (but and AE Pro!) and help would be most welcome.

I am running the latest version of Blender and Yafaray on Mac OS 10.5.7

(there was additional PS work done afterwards, loving the 32BPC support!)

You need these things:
Caustic photons, either used in direct lighting or in photon mapping
A glass material, with IOR=2.42
A photons source that can shoot caustic photons efficiently, namely a spot lamp.
