New YafaRay Site, input needed

Post Wed Jan 21, 2009 10:46 am

Works on the new YafaRay site has oficially started, you can check the progress in

http://www.yafaray.org/

We are using Drupal CMS.
First we will define functionalities and second we will implement a design.
Eventually, yafray.org traffic will be redirected to the new site and domain.

Your input and help to build our new home is more than welcome.

Cheers.

Congratulations on the new site!

IMO the old site had some really good features that should lend to the new site. I'll keep an eye out for it, but I'm going to New Zealand for 6 months so I probably wont (as usual  ) be very active here :?

As you can see, the old site has died, and users already get the new drupal site. Subcomandante has put a lot of work to build the new site.

It is a work in progress, we want to have the forum integrated in the site structure, and a bugs/features tracker integrated too, so in the same session people can post a missage in the forum, file a bug or comment a render in the official gallery. Example:
http://www.yafaray.org/gallery?g2_itemId=536

Also the new integrated forum will be updated to phpbb3, and attachments should be possible. Other features are planned as well, personally I think I would be great if everybody can add his/her own content to the site.

Please enjoy it!

I do not think it wise to lock the legacy forum. yafray is still a good renderer, and it still has uses. It still pulls people into the yaf family of renderers and I still use it sometimes for animations because the refine option for irradience cache was insanely fast.

anyone else's input?

Yes I agree;
i think until the cache stuff isnt integrated in yafaray,
yafray should stay in coma :)

Hi

this weekend the forum is going to be integrated in the new drupal site and it will be uppgraded to phpbb3, so attachments will be possible. Expect some down time.

We are testing an integrated bugtraker utility as well to be implemented shortly thereafter, so in the same session people can comment an image in the gallery, file a bug or post a missage in the forum.

Stay tuned.

It's nice and clean, but maybe something to differentiate posts would be helpful. The ones without avatars seem to run together, and it makes the page a little confusing and the posts are difficult to read.

I like the new forum. :D

I had some concerns about readability at first, but they are lessening as I get used the new layout. One thing I don't like though is the forum menu page, I think it is cluttered with too many font colors and generally hard to read. Also I think font size for the posts is too small.

Also I just noticed that images posted using the forum's file attachment process cannot be viewed unless you are logged in. I think images should be openly viewable even by visitors.

Anyway thanks to everyone who's working on the new site, it's becoming a real asset to the yafaray project. All the effort is appreciated. :)
