maybe that's what I'm doing wrong cause I had a light source. Would love to see the blend file of an actual scene with clay, I can't get it to work

A good tutorial would be solving the antialiasing problem in high contrast areas with multipass rendering and render post processing.

Also a tutorial about caustics, that gathers all the information about caustics which is rather spread out in the users guide.

I would be willing to do this but first there were a few feature requests that I have been bouncing around in my head for a while and would like to discuss.

ideas:
1:make AA threshold proportion instead of absolute
2:make multiple AA threshold rendering steps

explanation:
1:instead of resampling if there is an absolute difference of 0.01 or so make it a proportional difference so that .1 means if the pixels are at .100 and.112 they are resampled but at .8 and .812 they are not. This would cause less unnecessary sampling for very bright areas and sample more in dark areas which often end up grainy now.
It could be more complicated as in a function with both a constant offset and a proportional part. I guess this would benefit some research into how the eye works
2:example - render for a while at AAT .01 then quickly sample many more times at AAT .1 or .2 to get rid of very bad areas like the edge of glasses and lights

There is probably a better forum to discuss this in but I thought it was relevant to this feature request and I would appreciate any insights

Could anyone make a tutorial on the caustic effect? You know making a those cool reflections from different materials, like gold and silver. I would be very happy if anyone could post me a link to either a video or text tutorial :).

Cloth in Blender and YafaRay

Post Fri Oct 02, 2009 4:00 pm

Hello, I am requesting for a tutorial that covers cloth and softbody for blender and final output render with yafaray. I would appreciate a pdf or HTML file instead of a video tutorial coz my accessibility of the internet is too slow to allow for heavy downloads. Thanks a lot.

Need2Blend: if you need informations on clothes/softbodies, it would be better to search directly on blender tutorials websites. For the render of a cloth, you should then start a thread, people will help you there.

3shay: there are good informative threads wich deal with realistic glass:

Hi,

I try to use the blend material but there are several bugs (I work with the 0.1.2) and it's impossible for me to reproduce the exemple in this page:
http://www.yafaray.org/documentation/us ... modulation
I can blend the color but nor the bump
Image

I have a bump on all the object.

So I would like a tutorial to know how to map a blend material with some details and explications.

Thank you :D
I'm french. Excuse me if my english is not good.

It should be fixed on svn.
Please use 0.1.1 if you want to reproduce the guide, or post on http://www.yafaray.org/community/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=2613 0.1.2 related bugs.

Cheers

I'm going to formally request your help guys. It would be great if someone can volunteer to write a tutorial about a question that regularly pops up in the forums, which is using compositing techniques with YafaRay, particulaly compositing objects and its shadows in real pics and footage. We have gathered some threads about this subject, which are:

http://www.yafaray.org/community/forum/ ... =13&t=3017
http://www.yafaray.org/community/forum/ ... 98&p=14202
http://www.yafaray.org/community/forum/ ... 54&p=11962
http://www.yafaray.org/community/forum/ ... =13&t=2186

It would be fantastic if we can make a good tutorial out of these threads, where all the dispersed information and tricks about it can be gathered.

Thank you for your collaboration.

How-to tutorials for Yafaray?

Post Fri Mar 12, 2010 10:51 am

I have reviewed several pdfs/links which are tutorials, user guides, etc, and while they are loaded with information, they are more focused on describing what Yafaray does or what it is, parameters it deals with, etc, rather than offering step by step how-to information for the completely uninitiated to Yafaray.

I am glad that some post their blend files, but this still leaves me flopping about, pushing this button and that — which can be invaluable, but it's also helpful to see a couple of basic "this is how you use it" type tutorial, so that a beginner at least has some base of knowledge to work with.

Doe anyone here know of such tutorials? I am not finding any by googling.

thank you!

EDIT: BTW, no disrespect whatsoever was intended by my request above. I've looked at the materials offered and it's clear that a great deal of time, care and energy has been offered to illuminate what Yafaray is and what it can do. The results speak for themselves: yafaray renders are exemplary.

My post is simply to inquire about other types of learning materials for yafaray, of the "Here's how to get started in 10 steps" type.

Can I suggest a short tutorial to gently bring a newbie into Yafaray?

I had my model rendering fine in Blender, but wanted a more realistic scene, so installed Yafaray.

However, my first attempts at rendering produced a black canvas and I had to delete all the lights and recreate them anew. Also, all my blender materials have gone and the scene is now a uniform grey.

What would have helped is a tutorial stepping through all of the things a newb needs to consider when using Yafaray for the first time.

Well, I think I could do a introductory tutorial on how to setup basic things like materials, lamps & world. If you give me some time... :)
