Rendering Sparks

Post Sun Sep 27, 2009 5:43 pm

I need to render some sparks for an animation. The sparks animation it's a matter of a couple of frames, but particles can't be rendered "normally" in Yafaray right?

Ideas?

Particles should render in in Yafaray *IF* each particle has geometry. (using the 'dupliVerts' option) Then let the sparks have a material with a high 'emit' value.

Can you post an example of the settings that I should have? It renders only the luminous plane.

Yeah, i viewed it but, the sparks are moving, not still, and are semi-transparent and emit a bit of light. How can I make an Halo material in Yafaray?

Halo material can be made with Volumetrics but you will need longer render times

But those are lamps. May I use lamps for particles? :|

no. with lamps and volumetrics you can made a 'Halo like' effect. that's all :)
For particles an emiter material is the best choice

yes you can just set visualization to Object and enter a lamp as the object. The lamp you set and all its yafaray settings will be instanced at each particle.

However this renders very slowly with the volumetrics and is very limited in what halo effect you can achieve. I suggest that you use this alternative work around:
Render with point lights as your particles in yafaray with no volumetrics to get the proper light falling on your non spark objects.
Render the sparks in blender with all your objects and background as black.
Composite the parks onto the yafaray image.

This will give you realistic lighting form the sparks and realistic image from yafaray. It will also let you use the blender halo system to get the sparks to look like you want them to and should be very easy in the compositing. (a simple 'add' will do)
