possible bug: multiple volumes

Post Mon Aug 03, 2009 3:35 am

I was playing with the volume renderer today and I found out that if you render multiple volumes they get darker and darker as more are added. In the scene shown below I am not changing anything but the number of identical cubes.
1volume.png (5.17 KiB) Viewed 7893 times
2volumes.png (7.71 KiB) Viewed 7893 times
3volumes.png (10.14 KiB) Viewed 7893 times

Does anyone know if this should happen and why?

I'm not positive, but I think that as the total volume from volumetric regions in a scene increases, the volumetric density decreases in all the volume regions. That's why the cubes appear to get darker, the volumes are less dense and so more of the black background shows through.

I just don't know why it happens or if it should. I guess Bert can give more information on this.

I can think of why this is happening and I'll check it out soon. It's very likely a bug. ;)

Sorry for digging up such an old thread but I am experiencing the same issue in 0.1.1. Is there any news on this bug?
