i saw an example of gold ring in the old PDF book fro YAFARAY

does anyone know if there is a sample file for this model?
i tough there was a tut on this in YAFARAY somwhere
may be part of the old yafray but cannot put my hands on it

so if anybody has a sanmple file for this
let me know please!

here a test i did with some pic
hope someone can tell me how to set it up like in the PDF book
to get a nice render in yafaray

now th top right pic shows the last test i did
with AO and some caustic from another thread on white gold ring in this forum

but he use a spherical map for the world i think whihc i did not have !

now i'm not able to get the same results than in the PDF book

can anyone point me how to do it !

Thanks

Happy blendering

I don't think the scene from the doc is available anywhere, only the image.

I while ago I tried making a similar scene for myself, I can share it with you. But I used a hdri in the scene (the St. Peter's probe from http://www.debevec.org/probes/), so instead of packing it into the blend file you can just get it for yourself and relink it to the world texture called "hdri".

Anyway, here's the scene (it's not the greatest):

sorry but i never use this HDRI thing

what is it !

kind of a world spherical map in HD?

i'll check the setting for the material i think it should work fine

it looks nice anyway

for theses any idea on how to have some nice velvet cloth in a small box also
not certain if this can be done in Yafaray but it should

be back later with some commetns and results of testing

thanks for sharing this and hoep other peoples can also take this as alittl tut on godl rings

Thanks

An hdri image has more light intensity data stored in it than a normal 8-bit image, so a renderer like yafaray can use these files as a light source. In the world tab of the yafaray export UI there is a "use IBL" button that controls whether to use one of these hdri's for lighting in yafaray. (I hope you are using the latest RC release.)

Another advantage to the hdri in this type of scene is that it is a quick way to give shiny objects an environment to reflect.

For velvet you could use a glossy shader with a low glossy exponent:

Please forgive the harsh lighting and other problems, I just did this quickly.

hey there .
i am trying to do the same ,
i am trying with the file that you post here
and i wont get the render result as you post in the first image
and there are black places on the ring

sorry , but i am very new to yafaray
what to i have to do to get the same result as you

for avoiding black places on the rings
i put the ring inside a sphere , it will remove the black places but still not the same as your result

i really like what u did there

hi Shay Tessler, the hdr image isn't packed with the file, you'll need to download one and apply it.

here's a link from the forum on how to do it.

here's the wizofboz file with an hdr packed. before you start the render don't forget to unpack the texture (click on that button)

that's strange, are you using the file i uploaded? the hdr i packed is called free_003.hdr, not stpeters_probe.hdr as you got on your image. download the file bellow the image in my post.

if you unpack the textures there shouldn't be any black areas.

select create, not remove pack

Shay Tessler: Any reflective object in the scene will have the hdr reflection, I don't think there is any way to change this without some sort of compositing setup.

BTW: for the record the hdri file I used originally was this one:
