Has no one an idea where to search the reason for that drastic speed decrease ?

Kind regards

Paulo, many thanks for the deb package. It installs fine, however when I try to launch yafaray from blender I get this error:
Code: Select all
ImportError: libyafaraycore.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Yet the library has been installed properly in /usr/local/lib.

any idea why it's not recognizing it?

regards,
Alvaro F. Celis

EDIT: nevermind, I found the fix here:
http://www.yafaray.org/community/forum/ ... raycore.so

It's working great! :D Orthographic cameras are back!

I have a little problem with installing it.

I use blender 2.49 and yafa 0.1.1. I deinstalled the 0.1.1 version first and then i installed the 0.1.2.
But now, there is no Yafaray in the render menu tab. What could be wrong, did i need something special for it?

I have on a different folder the blender 2.53 version. Is it possible the installer didnt find the right blender directory?

yes it is possible that the yafaray installation is not actually linked to the Blender install you're using, but to another one you've in your computer

I too am having problems getting this working.

I un-installed yafaray1.1, installed 1.2 with no problems. The render > Yafaray Export menu entry in Blender is correctly labeled as 1.2beta1 but when I try and render something, I get

Code: Select all
ERROR: Exporter: Aborting, yaf_export.py script, version number 0.1.1 is not the same as interface 0.1.2-Beta1.

Alain: to get a better sky color I think the default exposure setting of 1.0 for DarkTide's sunsky is way too high, you could try lowering it to 0.4 or 0.5. You could also experiment disabling gamma encoding (I prefer this on though) or using a different scattering model like sRGB (D65) rather than the default CIE(E), maybe you can find a sky you like a little better.

About the slowness, I think there are several issues with sunsky that DarkTide wants to look at before the release, rendering speed may be one of them but I'm not sure about that.

Bliz: You did not say what OS you use, but as a guess it seems that yaf_export.py is an old 0.1.1 file left over from the last installation. You should probably uninstall the beta, and then make sure there are no yaf*.py files in any location where blender looks for python scripts before reinstalling the beta.

@wizofboz

Thanks for the hints, I will try this.

I hope you don't do another official release before speed is equal to 0.1.1 or even better ;-)

Anyway, I'm still very impressed what you guys do in your sparetime ;-)

Kind regards

I have no idea whats going wrong.

After deinstalling both blenders and yafaray, and installing first 2.49 then yafaray 0.1.2 and then blender 2.53 it works now.

I wasnt able to reinstall the 0.1.1 version too. Maybe there went something wrong with blender 2.53 install.

Thanks anyway.

Is it possible, that yafaray cant handle Linked Materials?

Angular HDRI maps works fine, but i cant get a Spherical Map to work.
Sure if i use the Angular button in the Worldmenu tab, but if i change to sphere the render calculate the Photons and then it stops.

Did i something wrong or is that not supported?

Would it be a big thing to also support python 2.7? Not a big deal, but it would be nice not to have to keep three versions of python around on my PC.

Very happy with yafray and congrats for you excelent work guys. As some of other yaf users, my renders are slower with YafarRay 0.1.2 beta, hope it's temporary.

Other question is not a YafaRay version problem, just a sugestion about background portals. Well, since they are used to make internal scenes, it seams logic to me that the great benefit of using portals is stop losing photons outside, but the only way to achieve that is turning sun and sky off. This way we lose the sunshine entering through the window or something. I don't know if it is possible, i don't understand nothing about programing and this kind of stuff, but, i think it could be a good idea when using portals to take in account only the photons passing through the portals to generate photon map.

The way it is now we must use a great amount of photons to generate photon map because a lot of them are lost outside.

Thanx.

Sorry about my english.

Another thing is that YafaRay is now using more memory than before. A lot.

@Malo

I had the same problem with an environmap.
When I entered manually a "rotation value" in the yafaray word tab then the renderings stoped as well.
When I left the "rotation value" by default then it renders well.
When I entered a "rotation value" by only klicking on the arrows it renders without problems as well, but there were strange "rotation values" (can't remember exactly).

I used pathtracing.

Kind regards
