YafRay 5th Anniversary Contest. New prize:3DWorld subscript.

In July 2002, a computer sciences student called Jandro started to code an open source raytracer called YafRay. Or maybe it was the first YafRay release and in fact coding started a bit earlier, while he was preparing his last semester's exams. The only things that we know for sure are that a) he was bored indeed :) and b) he was looking for an open source raytracer and found nothing.

This July will be the 5th Anniversary of YafRay. We want you to make a commemorative render for this anniversary.

:!: Some rules:
  • The render motif should be related to this anniversary in some way, through a metaphoric image for instance. Think about milestones in your life, about time, about light, about YafRay. Seek for inspiration. Wait to have a clear picture in your mind about what your render should look like.
  • You can use either YafRay or Yaf(a)ray for rendering.
  • The contest will end the 10th of July.
  • You can, of course, post process and composite your render, but using only yafray/yafaray passes.
  • Post your final renders in this thread please.
The Winner will be selected by YafRay.org forum members. There are two prizes. The winner can choose between:
  • One item from the Blender Shop, up to your choice, donated by the YafRay Team.
    Image
  • Or one-year subscription for 3D World, the magazine for 3D artists. 3D World has donated this prize. Many thanks to them!

The prize discarded by the winner will be awarded to the contestant classified in second place. Thank you in advance for participating. :)

If I get around to submitting something, what should the dimensions be? Banner-size, full-fledged rendersize?

Hope I get around to participating >_0

:o Oh snap! I think this is going to be the first 3D contest I enter.
Fun. Don't worry, I'm still a noob, but I'll be able to say I participated.
Some day I'll be up to par with you all.

3D World has donated an one-year subscription as a prize for the YafRay 5th Anniversary Contest. We are deeply honoured by their decision. 3D World is probably the most important international magazine for 3D artists.

They also told us that there is a big Blender character animation tutorial coming up in issue 94, on sale 17 July.
Many, many thanks to them.

We have re arranged the contest prizes a bit, look for details in the first post. Thanks again for participating.

I would like to help people who is thinking about entering this contest by proposing a range of topics that can be somewhat related to this anniversary. I hope it helps also to prevent people posting unrelated pictures with just a 'happy anniversary' stamped somewhere.

These are the topics I would like to propose:
  • Photons (pictured as a physical entity)
  • Photons rain
  • Wheel of time (lots of posibilities)
  • Green light & a road (railroad) ahead
  • Time passing by
  • Measure of time
  • Milestone
  • Congratulations
  • Number five in Nature
  • Number five in human creations
  • ...

Look for inspiration in photography & art books, Google Image Search, etc.
I will keep on expanding this list as soon as I find more suitable topics, so keep an eye on it.

I would like also to say that you have still plenty of time ahead, so work hard in your entries please.

Multiple entries are not allowed, but you can keep on improving your entry or change it completely untill the last moment. Edit your post to change your image if you wish.

Open a thread in the WIP section of this forum if you need help & input with your entry.

Ok, here's mine. I am originally from BA, but I think I will still keep up with these forums too. I have to post my work today, since I will not be here for the final due date. So, I hope I do good. (Notice the time the watch is set to ) Good luck to all other people! It just uses nodes. Photobucket did a bad job on hosting, that's why the lines are a little messed up.
